Up, Up and Away to Machu Picchu

Hi all it’s Gus again. This blog is about my trip to Machu Picchu. First off we hiked all the way of the 4-day hike. It was pretty easy the first day. We started and had a gradual upward climb to lunch and then to dinner and camp.

The second day was the hardest. We had to climb all the way up to the top of dead woman’s pass and which is at 14,250 ft. Later on we went up another pass, but this one was at a lower altitude. Near the end I was on the verge of tears because I was so tired.

On the third day we hiked up to another pass on a better road and at a lower altitude. As we went up it started to rain and got cold and windy. After we got to camp I got a hot shower and a massage. It was wonderful after 3 days of hiking. Later that day we got to see an area with Inca ruins, but smaller than Machu Picchu.

On the fourth day we got up at 4:00 A.M. and went to have breakfast. At five ten we were at the checkpoint. After a 1 hour hike we got to the sun gate; what we saw was amazing, a large open area and not a single cloud in the sky. Machu Picchu was magnificent.

After we got our tickets for a tour and ate a snack we entered Machu Pichu. The first thing we did was have a little talk about the history. The main point was that they really don’t know what Machu Picchu was used for. Then we went to the temple of the sun. We took a long tour of the place that would take me pages to describe to you. So you can see our pictures and videos.

The people I met on this hike were fantastic and funny. Every night we played cards and told jokes and stories. At the end we met a kid named Daniel on the train and became fast friends. I hope all of you guys can read this and hear my thanks for the fantastic time. See you later.
